
Tower Light Outage? You Have 30 Minutes to File a NOTAM

What Is a NOTAM?
A NOTAM is an official aviation safety alert that warns pilots of potential hazards—including tower light failures.
If your tower is subject to FAA lighting requirements and the lights go out, a NOTAM must be:
- Filed within 30 minutes
- Logged in your site’s daily compliance records
How to File a NOTAM for a Tower Light Outage
Filing is simple and only takes a few minutes.
Call the FAA:
📞 877-487-6867
Be ready with:
- Tower ASR number
- Outage start date and time
- Estimated repair time
- Tower location and height
The FAA will issue:
- A NOTAM number
- An airport code
Record this information in your compliance log.
How to Lift a NOTAM After Repairs
Once your lighting system is restored:
- Call the FAA again
- Provide:
- Your ASR number
- The airport code
- The NOTAM number
The FAA will close the NOTAM and restore normal status.
